It crashed to the floor, breaking it into several pieces. I had a fantastic toy store, but we placed it on the kitchen table as we were unpacking last year, and Lyla got ahold of the cord somehow. This is a new piece I found at Walmart this year:

I shared close-ups of all the houses in the video above, but here are just a few photos. If you don’t have enough pieces to fill a whole dresser, only remove enough drawers for what you have. The church was the only piece that didn’t fit inside, so I set it up on top! The few that were a tad taller went on the top shelf that had a bit more space… The space between each shelf was just right! I needed about 9″ clearance for most houses… You could remove the drawer slides also, but as you can see, I just painted those as well…

I did have to find a place to house all the drawers that came out of this piece, but that was much easier! I love that I didn’t have to move this large piece, I could keep my weights where they were, and I didn’t have to relocate my side table in the corner either. If you have trouble viewing, you can see it on my YouTube channel HERE! The After Here’s a video of it coming together and a close-up up tour of the after as well: When he was younger, I would let him stay up late into the wee hours to help me build it, and it has become one of our favorite Christmas traditions! Setting up our Christmas Village I had it all prepped when Jack came home from college for Thanksgiving break, and we spent the last day unwrapping it and putting the village together! The only thing left to do was drill a hole at the back of each shelf for the cords…

I just gave it one coat, and that was it. So the next day, that’s exactly what I did, using Silk mineral paint in Saltwater since it doesn’t require a topcoat: I took a quick measurement to see if the shelves were tall enough to house my houses and they were just the right height!Īll I needed to do was paint the inside white to make it the perfect backdrop! Luckily, there was thin plywood beneath each drawer. So I took the drawers out to inspect a bit further… What if I could turn it into shelving to house my village? So one day as I was sitting at my desk, which is just to the left, I got to looking a little closer at that dresser I use for storage. (I really did not want to have to move everything again.) Besides being my home office, this room also functions as my workout space. This dresser holds many of my staging props. You can see the original makeover of this dresser HERE. Here’s what normally lives along that wall in my office: This year, I was determined to find a new solution! I was actually searching for shelving units to use solely for displaying our village. A new way to display that Christmas village This has worked for many years, but finding an empty wall in our new house to display two four foot tables is getting harder! I hate to have to move what lives on this wall in my office to display it all, and the other locations we’ve tried haven’t been ideal. Pretty soon I was filling two four foot tables: I searched eBay, found a couple at thrift stores, and also acquired several from yard sales!

I used to only have enough to display on our mantel, but then I kept collecting…and collecting. Then after the holidays one year, I found several Christmas village pieces on the clearance and my obsession began! I started with this David Winters cottage my mom gifted me in my twenties: I absolutely love putting together our little village every year! Hello lovelies!! Welcome back! Today, I’m taking a short break from thrifty makeovers to share a new way to display that Christmas Village that always takes up so much space!
